To begin with let us define ANTIQUE FLOOR
LAMP. Naturally a floor lamp typically rests on the floor as opposed to
resting on a stand, the wall or the ceiling. The standard definition of an
ANTIQUE means some thing via a bygone era. It positions the term beyond
the legal world and into frequent use. "Era" is general observed and is
defined as a long indefinite time period that also works out perfectly for
this standard definition. This common definition works perfectly because
any identification of an "Antique Floor Lamp" is pretty worthless not
having some time period designation usually in the form of circa 1905
which actually means "about the year 1905". So I'll utilize the term
ANTIQUE FLOOR LAMP on this foundation and often replace it when using the
term VINTAGE FLOOR LAMP. This theme does not deal with modern
reproductions of antique lamps that is a different matter to itself.
Increasingly more people are grasping to recognize the value of the high
quality and styling of antique floor lamps particularly as most of the
ones becoming manufactured nowadays are molded plastic and literally
produced to be thrown away. Nearly all floor lamp manufacturers from the
turn of the century made their lamps from weighty metals for example cast
iron, brass, steel and cast zinc occasionally mixed together with marble,
onyx, glass and stone. The lamp shop regularly restores these antique
floor lamps for resale and for our customers' own use. From our 30 years
of experience it will be clear that lots of these antique floor lamps will
carry on for hundreds of years. The electrical devices, the fabric shades
and the painted finishes often require restoration although most were made
with such good quality, that they're a better value than brand new high
end lamps that sell for several hundreds of dollars. You will find
surprises regarding the collectible works of art below.
High quality, beauty and function were effective influences on the makers
of antique floor lamps. Many people are aware of their outstanding quality
and beauty but entirely amazed concerning the highly developed functional
and technical characteristics. There are too many examples to list here
but I'll point out a couple of the more important ones.
